Ingredients

  • For the Salmon:
  • 4 salmon fillets (6 oz each), skin-on or skinless
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1–2 tsp olive oil
  • For the Homemade Barbecue Glaze:
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

Instructions

  • Step 1: Make the Homemade Barbecue Glaze: In a small saucepan, combine ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Simmer over medium-low heat for 5–7 minutes, stirring frequently, until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • Step 2: Prepare the Salmon: Preheat the grill to medium-high heat (or heat a grill pan on the stove). Pat salmon fillets dry with a paper towel and brush lightly with olive oil. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  • Step 3: Grill the Salmon: Place salmon fillets on the grill, skin-side down if applicable. Grill for 4–5 minutes per side, depending on thickness, brushing generously with the barbecue glaze during the last 2 minutes on each side. Salmon is done when it flakes easily with a fork and has a caramelized glaze.
