- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped (or chocolate chips)
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips or chunks (optional, for extra fudginess)
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Prepare the Pan Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
Melt Chocolate and Butter In a heatproof bowl, melt butter and semi-sweet chocolate together over a double boiler or in short microwave bursts. Stir until smooth and glossy. Let cool slightly.
Add Sugar, Eggs, and Vanilla Whisk in granulated sugar and brown sugar until combined. Add eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
Mix Dry Ingredients Sift flour, cocoa powder, and salt together. Gently fold dry mixture into wet batter until just combined (don’t overmix).
Add Extras Fold in chocolate chips and/or nuts if using.
Bake Spread batter evenly in the prepared pan. Bake for 28–32 minutes, until edges are set but the center is still slightly soft. A toothpick inserted should come out with moist crumbs (not wet batter).
Cool and Slice Allow brownies to cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.
