Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (lean preferred)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar (adjust to taste)
  • ½ cup beef broth or water (adjust for thickness)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 4–6 hamburger buns, toasted
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, pickles, or coleslaw

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Pan Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Brown the Beef Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon until browned (about 5–7 minutes). Drain excess fat if necessary.
  • Cook Vegetables Add chopped onion and bell pepper. Cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  • Build the Sauce Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and brown sugar. Mix well until beef is coated.
  • Simmer Add beef broth and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 10–12 minutes until the sauce thickens to your liking. Stir occasionally.
  • Taste u0026 Adjust Add salt and pepper to taste. Adjust sweetness or tang by adding more brown sugar or mustard if desired.
  • Serve Spoon the mixture onto toasted hamburger buns. Serve hot with your favorite sides.
