Ingredients

  • For the Mozzarella Sticks:
  • 12 mozzarella sticks (string cheese works)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs (Italian seasoned preferred)
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups vegetable or canola oil for frying
  • For the Marinara Sauce:
  • 2 cups canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Mozzarella Sticks : Cut each mozzarella stick in half, if desired, for smaller portions. Set up a breading station: Bowl 1: flour ,Bowl 2: beaten eggs with milk ,Bowl 3: breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper Dredge each stick in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs, pressing gently to coat. For extra crunch, repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating. Place coated sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 30 minutes to prevent cheese from melting too quickly during frying.
  • Make the Marinara Sauce : In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté garlic until fragrant (about 30 seconds). Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar. Simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Keep warm.
  • Fry the Mozzarella Sticks : Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry mozzarella sticks in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove and drain on paper towels. Serve immediately.
