- 2 cans (28 oz each) crushed tomatoes
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup vegetable or chicken broth
- 1 tsp sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
- ½ tsp salt (or to taste)
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning
- 1 cup heavy cream or half-and-half
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
- Optional garnish: fresh basil leaves, grated Parmesan, croutons
Prep vegetables: Chop onion and garlic.
Combine ingredients: In a slow cooker, add crushed tomatoes, chopped onion, garlic, broth, sugar, salt, pepper, and dried herbs. Stir to combine.
