Step 1: Prepare the Dough : In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tbsp of sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. Add remaining sugar, butter, egg, and salt. Mix well. Gradually add flour, 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Step 2: Prepare the Filling : In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon. Set aside softened butter for spreading over the dough.
Step 3: Roll and Fill : Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a large rectangle (about 16×12 inches). Spread softened butter evenly over the dough. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the buttered surface. Roll the dough tightly into a log starting from the long side. Cut into 12 equal pieces using a sharp knife or dental floss.
Step 4: Second Rise : Arrange the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking pan. Cover and let rise for 30–40 minutes until puffy.
Step 5: Bake : Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown on top.
Step 6: Prepare the Frosting : In a bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract; beat again. Add milk gradually until desired consistency is reached.
Step 7: Frost and Serve : Spread the cream cheese frosting over warm rolls. Serve immediately while soft and gooey.
