Ground Beef Tostadas with Refried Beans and Lettuce

Ingredients
  

  • For the Ground Beef
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/3 cup tomato sauce or salsa
  • For the Tostadas
  • 8 tostada shells (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 can (15 oz) refried beans
  • 1/2 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped onions (optional)
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (optional)
  • 1 avocado or guacamole (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add ground beef and cook while breaking it apart.
  • Add diced onions and minced garlic to the pan.
  • Cook until beef is fully browned and onions are soft.
  • Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  • Add chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  • Stir in tomato sauce or salsa.
  • Simmer for 5 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  • Warm the refried beans in a saucepan over low heat.
  • Lay tostada shells on a flat surface.
  • Spread 2 tablespoons of refried beans on each tostada shell.
  • Add 2–3 tablespoons of the beef mixture on top.
  • Sprinkle shredded lettuce over the beef layer.
  • Add shredded cheese on top of the lettuce.
  • Layer on tomatoes, onions, sour cream, or avocado as desired.
  • Serve immediately while the shells are crisp.
