Ingredients

For the Sandwiches:

  • 4 large buttery croissants (fresh or lightly toasted)
  • 8 slices deli ham (or leftover baked ham, thinly sliced)
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese (or Gruyère for extra nuttiness)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for toasting, optional)

For Garnish / Serving:

  • Pickles or cornichons (optional, for crunch)
  • Side salad, chips, or soup (optional pairings)

Instructions

  • Prep the Croissants Slice croissants horizontally with a serrated knife. Place the bottom halves on a clean surface or baking sheet.
  • Add Condiments (Optional) Spread Dijon mustard or mayonnaise on the inside of each croissant half, depending on your flavor preference.
  • Layer Ham and Cheese Place 2 slices of ham on each croissant bottom. Add a slice of Swiss cheese over the ham.
  • Toast the Sandwich Option 1: Skillet Method Heat a skillet over medium-low. Add a touch of butter. Place sandwiches in the skillet, press gently with a spatula, and cover with a lid until the cheese melts (~3–4 minutes). Flip carefully to toast the top if desired. Option 2: Oven Method Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place sandwiches on a baking sheet and heat for 8–10 minutes until cheese melts and croissants are warm.
  • Serve Remove from heat, close the sandwiches with the croissant tops, and serve immediately.
