2 flatbreads (store-bought or homemade naan, pita, or thin crust)
1 tbsp olive oil, for brushing
1 cup tomato or pizza sauce (preferably homemade or Italian-style)
1 ½ cups fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced or torn
2 ripe tomatoes, thinly sliced
A handful of fresh basil leaves
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, for drizzling
Optional: Pinch of red pepper flakes or balsamic glaze for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the oven : Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet or pizza stone with parchment paper.
Step 2: Prepare the flatbread base : Place the flatbreads on the baking sheet. Brush lightly with olive oil to help them crisp up in the oven.
Step 3: Add the sauce : Spread an even layer of tomato sauce over each flatbread, leaving about ½ inch of crust around the edges.
Step 4: Layer the toppings : Arrange slices of fresh mozzarella evenly over the sauce. Top with thin tomato slices. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to enhance flavor.
Step 5: Bake the flatbread : Place in the preheated oven and bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and the edges are golden and crispy.
Step 6: Add fresh basil and drizzle : Remove from the oven and immediately top with fresh basil leaves. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil or balsamic glaze before serving.
