Ingredients

For the Cupcakes (base):

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (or homemade cupcake batter)
  • Ingredients required for the cake mix (usually eggs, oil, and water)

For the Green Icing Puddle:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3–4 tbsp milk
  • 2–3 drops green food coloring (gel preferred)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For Decoration:

  • Chocolate wafer cookies (for witch hats)
  • Mini sugar cones (for hat tops)
  • Black frosting or melted chocolate (to “glue” hat pieces together)
  • Halloween sprinkles (optional)
  • Pretzel sticks or decorated candy sticks (for broomsticks or witch legs)
  • Black licorice strings or striped paper straws (to mimic witch’s legs)
  • Green frosting (optional, for extra goo effect)

Instructions

  • Bake the Cupcakes Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners. Prepare chocolate cake batter according to box or recipe instructions. Fill liners 2/3 full and bake for 18–20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack before decorating.
  • Make the Green Icing In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth and slightly runny. Add green food coloring and stir until you get a bright, “witchy potion” color. Adjust consistency with a little extra powdered sugar (thicker) or milk (thinner).
  • Create Witch Hats (Optional but Fun!) Spread a little black frosting or melted chocolate on the bottom of each sugar cone. Attach it to a chocolate wafer cookie to form a hat. Add sprinkles, frosting, or candy for decoration. Let set.
  • Assemble the Melted Witch Cupcakes Spoon green icing generously over each cupcake, allowing it to drip down the sides like a puddle. Place witch hats on top at an angle. Insert candy straws or pretzel sticks decorated as witch legs into the icing. Add extra gummy worms, sprinkles, or candy broomsticks for extra spookiness.
  • Let Set and Serve Allow the cupcakes to sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes so the icing sets slightly. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready.
