Ingredients

  • For the Mini Bagel Bites:
  • 5 mini bagels (plain, sesame, or everything)
  • 6 oz (170 g) smoked salmon, thinly sliced
  • 6 oz (170 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, finely chopped (plus more for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon capers, drained
  • ½ small red onion, thinly sliced (into rings or slivers)
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices, or arugula for garnish
  • Optional Additions for Variation:
  • Flavored cream cheese (herb, chive, or garlic)
  • A drizzle of honey or balsamic glaze for a sweet-savory contrast

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare the Cream Cheese Spread : In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, lemon juice, lemon zest, and chopped dill. Mix until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning with a little salt (if needed) and a touch of black pepper.
  • Tip: For a fluffier spread, whip the cream cheese with a mixer for 1–2 minutes.
  • Step 2: Toast the Mini Bagels : Slice each mini bagel in half horizontally. Toast them lightly in a toaster or under the broiler for about 2–3 minutes until slightly golden. Let them cool slightly before spreading the cheese so it doesn’t melt.
  • Step 3: Assemble the Bagel Bites : Spread a generous layer of the prepared cream cheese mixture on each toasted bagel half. Place a small fold or rosette of smoked salmon on top. Garnish each with red onion slivers, a few capers, and a tiny sprig of dill. Finish with a crack of black pepper and a small squeeze of lemon juice for brightness.
  • Step 4: Optional Garnishes : Add thin cucumber slices or microgreens for freshness. A light drizzle of olive oil or balsamic glaze can elevate presentation.
