- 1 lb (450 g) sliced roast beef (deli-style or homemade leftovers)
- 4 sandwich rolls or hoagie buns (toasted if desired)
- 8 slices sharp cheddar cheese (or 1 cup shredded cheddar)
- 1 tbsp butter (for toasting rolls, optional)
- 1 small onion, caramelized (optional)
- ½ cup creamy horseradish sauce or mayonnaise (optional)
- ½ cup au jus or beef broth (optional, for dipping)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Prepare the Bread Slice sandwich rolls in half. Toast lightly with butter in a skillet or oven until golden.
Warm the Roast Beef Place sliced roast beef in a skillet with a splash of beef broth or au jus. Heat over medium until just warmed (avoid overcooking to prevent toughness).
Add the Cheese Lay roast beef onto the bottom half of the toasted roll. Place cheddar cheese slices (or shredded cheddar) on top. Cover skillet with a lid or place under a broiler for 1–2 minutes until cheese melts.
Assemble the Sandwich Spread horseradish sauce, mayo, or mustard on the top half of the roll. Add caramelized onions or toppings of choice. Place the top roll over the beef and cheddar.
Serve Immediately Slice in half and serve hot, with au jus on the side if desired.
