Ingredients

  • For the Stir-Fry:
  • 1 lb (450 g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 cups snow peas, trimmed
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional, for color and sweetness)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (or sesame oil for flavor)
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • For the Garlic Sauce:
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce (use low-sodium if preferred)
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar
  • ¼ cup chicken broth or water
  • 1½ tsp cornstarch (for thickening)
  • ½ tsp chili flakes or sriracha (optional, for spice)
  • For Garnish:
  • Sesame seeds
  • Extra green onions or chopped cilantro
  • Lime wedges (optional)

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare the Sauce : In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, honey, broth, and cornstarch. Stir until smooth and well combined, then set aside.
  • Step 2: Prepare the Shrimp and Vegetables : Pat shrimp dry with a paper towel — this helps them sear beautifully. Trim the ends of the snow peas and slice the bell pepper thinly. Have all ingredients ready — stir-frying happens quickly!
  • Step 3: Cook the Shrimp : Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add shrimp in a single layer and cook for 1½–2 minutes per side, just until pink and opaque. Remove shrimp and set aside.
  • Step 4: Stir-Fry the Vegetables : In the same pan, add another tablespoon of oil. Add garlic and ginger — stir-fry for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add snow peas and bell pepper. Stir-fry for 2–3 minutes, until crisp-tender and bright in color.
  • Step 5: Combine Everything : Return shrimp to the pan. Pour in the prepared garlic sauce. Toss everything together, stirring constantly, for about 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the shrimp and vegetables evenly.
  • Step 6: Serve : Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds, green onions, or cilantro. Serve hot with steamed rice, jasmine rice, or noodles.
