- 4 large egg whites (room temperature)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ tsp cream of tartar (or 1 tsp lemon juice)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Preheat Oven: Set oven to 225°F (110°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Whip Egg Whites: In a clean mixing bowl, beat egg whites with cream of tartar until foamy.
Add Sugar: Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, beating until stiff, glossy peaks form (about 5–7 minutes). Add vanilla if using.
Pipe Bones: Transfer mixture to a piping bag with a round tip. Pipe “bones” by making two round blobs connected by a line (like a dog bone).
Bake: Bake for 1 hour 15 minutes, until cookies are dry and crisp.
Cool: Turn off oven, crack the door open, and let cookies cool completely inside.
Serve or Store: Once cooled, carefully remove and store in an airtight container.
