For the Truffle Base:
- 8 oz (225 g) semi-sweet chocolate, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) heavy cream
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (or almond extract for variation)
For Decoration (the u0022Spider Nestsu0022):
- 1 cup shredded coconut (unsweetened or sweetened, finely grated)
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder (optional, for dusting some nests darker)
- Candy spiders, edible googly eyes, or chocolate sprinkles (optional for spooky décor)
Prepare the Truffle Mixture Place finely chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl. In a small saucepan, heat cream and butter over medium heat until just simmering. Pour the hot cream mixture over the chocolate. Let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until silky smooth. Stir in vanilla extract. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 1 hour, or until the mixture is firm enough to shape.
Shape the Truffle Balls Once chilled, use a small spoon or melon baller to scoop portions of the truffle mixture. Roll between your palms to form smooth balls (about 1 inch in diameter). Work quickly, as the chocolate can soften with the warmth of your hands.
Create the “Spider Nest” Look Spread shredded coconut in a shallow dish. Roll each truffle ball in the coconut until fully coated. For variety, roll some in cocoa powder first, then in coconut for a darker “nest” look. Place finished truffles on a parchment-lined tray.
Decorate (Optional) Add tiny candy spiders, edible eyes, or sprinkle chocolate sprinkles on top for a creepy-crawly effect. Chill truffles until ready to serve.
