1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (to thicken)
For Serving:
3 cups cooked steamed white rice (short-grain or jasmine)
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
2 green onions, finely sliced
Steamed broccoli or mixed vegetables (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare Ingredients : Slice beef thinly across the grain for tenderness. Mince garlic and grate fresh ginger. Measure out sauce ingredients for efficiency.
Step 2: Make the Teriyaki Sauce : In a bowl, mix soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin, honey, sake, garlic, and ginger. Stir until sugar dissolves completely.
Step 3: Cook the Beef : Heat a large skillet or wok with oil. Add beef slices in a single layer and sear until browned. Avoid overcrowding to ensure even cooking.
Step 4: Add and Thicken the Sauce : Pour teriyaki sauce into the pan and toss beef until coated. Add cornstarch slurry and simmer gently until thickened.
Step 5: Assemble the Bowl : Scoop warm rice into serving bowls. Top with teriyaki beef and drizzle extra sauce over it. Garnish with sesame seeds, scallions, or steamed vegetables.
