Ingredients

  • For the Tuna Salad:
  • 1 can (5 oz / 140 g) tuna in water or oil, drained
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt for a lighter version)
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional, for tang)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 small celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp red onion, finely chopped
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • For the Sandwich:
  • 4 slices whole-grain or white sandwich bread (toasted, optional)
  • 4 leaves crisp lettuce (romaine, iceberg, or butter lettuce)
  • 4 tomato slices (ripe, firm, and fresh)
  • Butter (optional, for spreading on toast)
  • Optional Add-ons:
  • Pickles or cucumber slices
  • Cheese (Swiss, cheddar, or provolone)
  • Avocado slices
  • Sprouts for crunch

Instructions

  • Prepare the tuna salad: In a mixing bowl, combine tuna, mayonnaise, mustard, lemon juice, celery, and onion. Mix until creamy and well blended. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Toast the bread (optional): Lightly toast the bread slices for extra crunch and to prevent sogginess.
  • Assemble the sandwich: Lay a lettuce leaf on one slice of bread, spoon tuna salad on top, add tomato slices, and cover with the second bread slice.
  • Serve immediately: Slice diagonally and serve with chips, salad, or soup.
